“Wild Curtis”, Installation - Watercolor paper, Watercolor, framed Watercolor, 14 x 3 feet, 2024
My brother was diagnosed with stage four cancer a couple of years ago. It was a shock. I could not imagine him, his body, lifeless. It seemed impossible. At the same time I was reading, “Wild New World”, a book about the hastened eradication of America’s animals, people who studied them and “moved heaven and earth to rescue them”. On my daily walks and hikes with my dog. I began noticing and taking photos of dead animals and insects. Then began painting them. This installation touches on the thoughts and feelings I had, creation and life cycles.
