"The Book of Gold" Oil on wood panel, 18" x 24" 2005, Private Collection Commission from Glen Nelson presented to composer Murray Boren celebrating the premiere of the opera "Book of Gold" at BYU in 2005. The opera explores events in the life of Joseph Smith from the time he received the gold plates from the angel Moroni, transcribed them and returned them to the angel. The painting depicts key events in Joseph’s life during this time period. The eye is reproduced from a well-known portrait of Joseph Smith and the pictorial elements are metaphorically placed in areas of the eye that are imbued with symbolic meaning.

"Hanging Family History, Cris Baird and Janae Howells" Ink, Copper wire, rice paper, 3 x 1 x 1 foot, 2018, Private Collection Cris and Janea Baird commissioned a Hanging Family History of their own ancestors. This piece starts with their children who each have a triangle with their genealogical data placed face to face at the top-most position. Their parents come off of them and their parents off of them, going back many generations.

"Mormoniana" Print for Mormon Artists Group Artist and composer collaboration, 2004 This print was commissioned by the Mormon Artists Group as a frontispiece to "Mormoniana,” a collaborative project between Mormon artists and composers. This image is a timeline of sorts of musical notation through time and place.
"DNA Etching" Stainless steel, James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Building, University of Utah, 2012 Commission from the non-profit Sorenson Foundation for an art etching encapsulating their vision for DNA sequencing combined with family history research..

"Dawn Rosquist Matriarchal Line " Oil on Panel, 40” x 20”, 2005, Private Collection Dawn Rosquist commissioned this piece, featuring herself on the right, her mother in red and her grandmother in sepia tones. The landscapes in between the portraits depict where each woman lived and grew up. The details around each woman’s body depict the work they did. Dawn’s grandmother was a seamstress and pattern maker, her mother was a secretary (thus the QWERTY typing pattern) and Dawn works in banking in New York City. The piece was created from biographical information and images submitted to Valerie for the commission.

Mike and Jessica Mladineo Oil on Panel, approx. 18” x 24”, 2005, Private Collection A commission to commemorate Mike and Jessica Mladineo’s wedding anniversary. The landscapes depict places they lived and events in their lives leading up to when they met in Boston and began their life together as a couple. The commission was created using images provided and interviews of a biographical nature.
